Measuring and Trimming
Shortening the PTO Shaft

Always read the operator manual.
If you are using a quick hitch system with your implement,
take your measurement with the quick hitch installed.

Standard size/length PTO shafts are shipped (worldwide) with all new implements sold including the sickle bar mowers, tillers, pumps, finishing mower, hay tools, post hole diggers, rotary cutters, etc.

With most subcompact, compact and many tractors under 50 hp, the PTO shaft will need to be shortened.

We do not have "short shafts" to ship. We have std. sizes and lengths.

You'll need to measure the shaft to make sure it can fully collapse when connected to the tractor and implement. Most customers have no problem taking care of this with a little hand held electric disc grinder with metal cutting disc or with a hack saw. If you don't have either one, you can take it to a neighbor's shop, metal machine, welding or fabrication shop and ask them to cut it for you.

Make sure you trim enough off to prevent it from bottoming out when you raise the mower all the way up. In other words, you don't want it to fully collapse while attached to the tractor.

The subcompacts are great tractors. I've owned 4 or 5 BX Kubota's ( and sold hundreds) though the years and love them. You'll find, as I did; they bring on lots of challenges using three point hitch implements. Between little tires, light front end weight, low under-clearance and short lift arms every little issue becomes amplified because of the tight space to work with.

Best wishes and good luck,
Steve
