Box blades -- Scraper blades. Which one for me?

Make sure that you are clear of the use, advantages and functions of both
tools. They are not the same a have different applications.  If you are simply wanted to PLOW SNOW over to the side of a drive way and to be able to push in into piles -- the scraper blade is best.  For snow a 17" high moldboard is better than a "shorter 12"/15" high moldboard (which cost a little less) and is usually serves best for
landscaping.

SCRAPER BLADE add a little weight but not as much as box blade weight or
future capacity for added weight as a box blade.

The box blade has MORE METAL so it is heavier than the scraper blade.
The box blade has MORE METAL STRUCTURE (a box) so it is easier to use as
weight carrier.

The box blade has RETRACTABLE ripping (scarifier) TEETH so it can dig in and
rip loose packed soils, roots, etc., making it a super general purpose landscaping tool.

The box can move material (soil, ice, snow, debris) over long distances by
dragging the filled box over the soil/sufaces WITHOUT SPILLAGE. Scraper
blade are made "to spill."

The box blade can scrape "like a dozer" traveling forward and push "like a
dozer" in reverse WITHOUT making any adjustments or leaving the tractor seat.
When used like this -- the two cutting edge ie: fwd. / rev. spill out the sides just like a scraper blade.

With a scraper blade, you:
1. Have to either go forward and pull the blade in a scraping and/or angled
plowing position -- or
2. Manually, uncouple the scraper blade from the tractor, rotate the hitch
assy. 180 degrees (now the plow faces to the rear), reattach the implement to
the tractor, THEN you may use in reverse direction to push-pile-scrape.

The box blade cannot PLOW. It cannot simply plow the soil or snow "over to
the side " as a scraper blade (or snow plowing blade does)

You can spend a much money as you desire on these tools.  4' box and scrapers generally start at $350. and go up to as high as $4000. You may add hydraulic functions to raise and lower rippers, tilt, angle and swing to offset positions. You'll need to add approx. $1000.00 per hydraulic function to cover the cost for the tractor valves and the implements cylinders and hoses.
